HW Assignments Week of 4/19/2010

Hello, APUSHers:

Here are the assignments for the week. Please note that you will be doing MULTIPLE LECTURES this week. There will be an EXAM on those lectures and all in-class work this FRIDAY!

NOTE - The .pdf book that we've been using is the 12th Edition of THE AMERICAN PAGEANT. Our in-class textbook and the wiki notes come from the 13th Edition. The chapter numbers are one off, but some of you probably know that already.

NOTE #2 - You are only responsible for reading the CHAPTER NOTES. Not the chapter!

America tried turning away from foreign affairs during the 1920s.

The German economy was inflated.

The Allies werent able to pay their depts.

Congress didnt agree to let up on depts so germany didnt have to pay so much

1921 nine nations came together for the washington conference where naval disarmment was proposed

The Us Brittain Japan and France agreed not to build any fortifications.

62 nations signed the Kellog pact

The pact caused conflicts that lead to war

The US once again tried to avoid being in world War Two

Weapons were sent to franco

Roosevelt didnt like this but he didnt want to take action

Mousilini was sending artillery planes and tanks ready for battle

Roosevelt called for an embargo against the Axis powers

Hitlers goal was to take control of germany and make it as strong and world dominant as possible

Hitler lead the night of the broken glass where the jews were persecuted highly

The night of the broken glass was the begining of a series of events lead by Adolf Hitler executing a great amunt of jews known as the Halocaust

FDR was ready for war after the Japenese surprise attack on pearl harbor

350 billion dallors was used to support the war and the US wasnt out of a depression anymore

Many goods supportd the military by giving a percentage of profit to the government

Radars, Bazookas, a newly approved rubber, and the nuke were developed during world war two

Heiroshima And Nagasaki were bomber with nucleur bombs ending the war

The grand alliance was to defeat germany and japan

Soviets wanted eastern europe

Plans for postwar organizations were made before the war was over

Korea became free and independant

Roosevelt and Stalin had a meeting of what will happen to germany after the war is over

Stalin decided to move polands border to the west giving the soviet union more land

The allies discussed the postwar plans as they seeked an end to the war

Japanese didnt surrender even when people they were at gunpoint and asked to drop their weapons. This made it hard to make the japanese surrender

The atomic bomb was developed and tested and soon used on japan giving them no choise but to surrender

The us and soviets cooperated only because they were both against the Nazis

The big three had a meeting to discuss ther plans to end the war and postwar plans

Stalin agreed for poland bulgaria and romania to hold free elections

Stalin lied and installed comnunist governments in all three countries

The second red scare was because we were afraid of the rise of comnumnism in europe because of what stalin decided to do

Years before the Pearl Harbor bombing, China was taken overr

China was lead by a facist government

Truman was blamed because China was tooken over and fell to comnunism

By the time the US helped the comnunism in asia, Comnunism was taking over asia and europe and there was a second red scare in the fear that comnunism would take over

HUAC was formed to suspect unamerican propaganda

A jail sentence was given to people in the film industry when they produced scrips related to comnunism

Comnunism was the new national emeny
