After you analyze the documents...
After you analyze the documents...
Theme: Reform movements are intended to improve different aspects of American life. Through the actions of individuals, organizations, or the government, the goals of these reform movements have been achieved, but with varying degrees of success.
Task: Select two antebellum (pre-Civil War) reform movements that had an impact on American life, and for each:
• Discuss one major goal of the movement
• Describe one action taken by an individual, an organization, or the government in an attempt to achieve this goal
• Evaluate the extent to which this goal was achieved
You may use any of the antebellum reform movements from your study of United States history. Some suggestions you might wish to consider include the abolitionist movement, woman’s suffrage movement, temperance movement, transcendentalism, and treatment of the mentally ill/criminals.

Finished with all of the assignments? Still looking for something to do? Here are some interesting, and dare I say, FUN options.
1. Most Historically Significant Individuals That No One Knows Project.
1. Most Historically Significant Individuals That No One Knows Project.
- Individual or with partner
- Choose five individuals whose contributions to American history and culture have been considerable but about whom very little is known. Avoid the obvious—no presidents, no first ladies!
- For each person you choose complete the following tasks:
- Explain who they are and what time period they lived in
- What did they do?
- Why do you think they are significant in U.S. History?
- Create a poster, a Power Point, or a film that presents your choices, fills in the little known details of their lives, and explains the significance of their contributions.
- You might want to focus on an area of history interesting to you and not dead center in the mainstream—medicine, engineering, art, music, video games, etc.
For a very cool example of this project, CLICK HERE
- Individual or with partner
- Choose one Comic Book Superhero (or other approved cultural icon) and create an illustrated timeline showing his or her development and how it has reflected the historical events of the time.
- Provide a brief history of the superhero/popular culture icon
- Explain how the superhero/popular culture icon was impacted by the course of historical events
- Explain if/how the superhero/popular culture icon impacted U.S. history
- Why are comic books/popular culture icons significant in U.S. History
- Create a poster, a PowerPoint, or a film that presents your superhero, fills in the little known details of their lives, and explains the significance of historical events on their development and storytelling.
- Track the history of the superhero through the decades: 1930s-present
- Significant Seven: the seven most historically significant superheroes include:
- Superman (June 1938)
- Batman (May 1939)
- Wonder Woman (Summer 1942)
- Spider-Man (August 1962)
- Captain America (March 1941)
- Captain Marvel (January 1941)
- The Flash (January 1940)
- These represent some of the most historically important superheroes in American history; however, you are encouraged to find another character that you believe better represent the United States in the modern era.

Post APUSH Exam Assignments
Hello, All:
The APUSH exam is over! However, there is still much work to be done. For some of us, that means preparing for the Regents exam. For others, it's more in-depth, independent study of a variety of exciting, interesting topics in American History. We will have time in class, and outside of class to work on these assignments.
IF YOU STILL NEED TO TAKE THE REGENTS EXAM...
Assignment #1 - The Amendment Mini Project. CLICK HERE for the link. Follow the directions carefully. Watch the videos, and complete the assignment as directed.
Assignment #2 - Supreme Court Mini-Project. CLICK HERE for the link.
Assignment #3 - The Flash Card Project: CLICK HERE for the link.
DUE DATE: June 7, 2017.
IF YOU ARE NOT TAKING THE REGENTS EXAM: Choose any THREE (3) of the following.
Option #1: Read the eBook, LEGACY. Legacy focuses on Lt. Col. Norman Starr of the U.S. Army, his wife, Nancy, and his West Point buddy-turned lawyer, Zach. It’s the weekend before Norman is set to testify before a Senate committee looking into the Iran-Contra affair. Norman’s clean on Iran but not on Central America. If he speaks the truth when asked about his activities helping the Contras, Norman will likely do himself some serious damage.
After reading the book, generate THREE guided reading questions (GRQ's) for each of the NINE chapters of the book. Please provide answers to the questions that you develop.
Option #2: Write one of the final chapters for the Legacy novel. The novel wraps up the Starr family's story in the late 1980's. Your task is to develop a chapter around a new Starr family member anchored in key events from American history between 1990 and 2017
Get started: Character Sketches for Legacy and Timeline
OPTION #3: Grand Expectations. Click the link for the project information.
OPTION #4: Images That Defined America.
Since its invention, photography has provided a window into the events that have changed the course of our nation. Images are seared into America’s collective memory and chronicled our nation’s progress and struggles during an era of rapid change.
Your task: Choose TEN images from The 50 Most Powerful Pictures In American History; and then provide a 150 word summary explaining your choice.
Here is a sample summary: Burst of Joy 1.pdf
Option #5: The Interview
