- Should Southern states be allowed to fly the Confederate flag, today?

I think that people should put the Confederate flag on their property and also public property. The flag is deemed as a hate speech toward some people, but you don't need to stop using the flag. You have a right to use whatever you want on your property no matter what any other people say. With this right, it goes with the First Amendment allowing anybody to say what they want, believe what they want, and basically express what they want. So this goes for the Confederate flag. No matter what anybody thinks of it, YOU have a right to use it.
I think that the Southern states should not be using the Confederate flag. I believe that all 50 states of America are ONE! With that being said,the Civil War occurred ages ago which means that whatever happened, does not matter anymore. The north took the victory in the war in which they wanted all states at the time to be one union. I think that the Confederate flag symbolizes the period of time in which the African Americans were slaves, segregated, and discriminated. Therefore, I believe if somebody who holds us the Confederate flag in the South is racist, based on these conclusions.
Although America is the land of the free and we have free speech, I don't feel that we should be flyingh the Confederate flag because there are a lot controversy behind it. This can be seen because the history behind the flag is so controversial. The whole idea of slavery is really looked down upon and hopefully it stays that way from sea to shining sea. One of the only ways this is possible is if we abolish the confederate flag.
I feel that we should be able to fly the Confederate flag in public. Despite it causing slight conflict, it is a huge part of American history. This is because it made America what it is today. Without the war America wouldn't have been the same, we may still be divided if it weren't for the war to keep the Union together. Therefore, it should be allowed to fly in public places. The flag is a symbol of history and if we ban it or we don't allow it to fly, it is like forgetting that important part of history that made America what it is. The flag should be flown as a reminder of our mistakes in the past. If we see the flag we will remember that mistake and learn from it. That is what we do today, take history and learn from it. From that war we learned all men are created equal and that everybody has rights and there should be no slavery. Due to these reasons, the Confederate flag should be flown in public places today.
I strongly believe that Southern states today should have the right and ability to fly the Confederate flag in public. The Confederate flag is found to be by many a symbol of hate , slavery, and segregation. That is wrong, to many southerners it is a symbol of heritage and history. Instead of hiding our history we should embrace and us it as a tool of learning. The Civil War made us what we are today. The flag should be flown in reminder of that. It is a symbol of Southern roots and history, so if Southerns want to embrace their history they have the right , to fly the Confederate flag wherever and whenever they want.
I believe that the southern states shouldn't be allowed to fly the confederate flags in public. Some southerners can love and feel proud of their flag, but this action can offend many people. This confederate flag does not only symbolizes the history, but it also symbolizes slavery. This was the major reason the south wanted to secede from the union. And after seceding, they created their own government and this flag to represent themselves. When African Americans see this flag, they can feel angry and sad, thinking about their ancestors. The south is now part of America so there is no need for another flag.
Southern states should not be allowed to fly the Confederate flag today because it would offend others and the majority of society feels that the Confederate flag stands for slavery and the suppression of African American people. An example is Mayor Berry who stopped flying the Confederate in the Old Town. “Those who consider the flag and artifacts to be nothing more than markers of history, should consider those who are deeply offended by the Confederate flag…” He realized that the flag was idolized where he lived and never realized how it could upset other civilians. He respected other people’s feelings by taking down the flag. Some may say that by banning the Confederate flag to be shown in public, their rights are being taken away and they can no longer believe in what they believe in. This is obviously untrue, being unable to fly the Confederate in public does not mean people are trying to control in what you do or don’t believe in. You can love the Confederate flag, but because people feel that the flag stands for something they dislike it would be most respectful to leave the flag flying in your own home.
Although many people may few it as offensive, I think southern states should be able to fly the confederate flag. I feel as if even though I believe America is one and view the flag as insultive, that doesn't mean other people can't believe in it. I believe everyone has a right to praise what they want, so if that's what Southern states want, then so be it. It would not be fair for the American flag to be taken away, therefore it isn't right to deprive southerns of prioritizing the flag in which they choose. In my opinion, taking away the flag is discriminative because it is bashing a groups beliefs. Regardless of my opinion, which is against the confederate flag, it doesn't take away the fact that others may praise it. The first amendment grants us freedom of religion. Therefore, southerns have a legal right to believe in what they want, and depriving them of that goes against the constitution.
The confederate flag may be important to some people, but I feel its best if Southerners don't fly it. It can be very offensive to Africans and anyone who opposed slavery and the Confederates which almost all people do. The flag brings bad history about America and can spread negative thoughts to society. The civil war killed many and thanks to the Confederates not winning, the South would've been a seperate nation and would still run on slavery. The flag symbolizes hate, slavery, segregation, and secession. It's best that you don't fly it in public, maybe at home if you strongly believe in it, but not outside where it can offend many.
Southern states should not fly the confederate flag in public. This is because many believe the flag is a sign of disunion, secession, and segregation. Many take offense to seeing the flag fly in the air and for this reason it should not. People have the right to believe in it however they should not fly it in public since they are not the only ones who feel this way. This conflict arose in North Carolina, 2015. Mayor Richard J. Berry explained that the flag should not be flown in public since many see it as,"a celebration of an ideology that did not recognize all Men as equal." The Confederate flag should not fly in public since it can deeply offend many in the United States.
I do not agree with the message and beliefs behind the confederate flag, however, I do believe that the supporters of it have to right to respect it, just as the people who oppose it have the right to hate it. It's not like putting up a Confederate flag will cause another rebellion, and people will only be offended by it if they let themselves be offended by it. The flag isn't stopping anyone from expressing their own beliefs, so it isn't hurting anyone to let it fly.
I believe Southern states should not be allowed to fly the Confederate flag today. This is because the flag only reminds people, especially blacks, of the time in American history when all men were not considered equal. The flag reminds people of different events in history that show the harsh moments the nation had gone through. For example, the Ku Klux Klan burned down many buildings owned by blacks and did not accept the change in society where African Americans had rights. Te flag reminds people of the time of slavery and the bad decisions the nation had made in the past. The only history that should be recognized is history that is respectful to all those who it represents. Event though it is an important right for citizens to protest for what they believe in, the flag is something of the past and the nation at the moment is viewed as one, the confederate flag no longer has a significant symbol and is losing power as the years pass. The United States flag is now what represents the nation.
I believe that the Southern states should be allowed to fly the Confederate Flag. This is due to the fact that for the most part it is used to show Southern pride, culture, and history. Now, in a case the flag is being used in a way to inspire intolerable and dangerous beliefs, then cause for alarm is understood. However, this should not be taken for the case and is not the case every time the flag is flown. If it was not allowed to be flown, then it would be seen as a insult to some of the greatest leaders America ever birth, and it should damage the learning of the Civil War if one side could not fly a flag that its most important army flew.
I also do believe it is hypocritical. They say they should not be able to fly the flag for what people interpret it as or what some people says it stands for? Why, then the same people should be ashamed in saluting the stars and stripes, for much worse things have happened when this flag was flown. We shouldn't ban the Confederate flag for the same reason we don't ban the Stars and Stripes, it is part of our history and we as a people and country must take responsibility for our past, both good and bad, if we are to grow as a people and nation.
Southern states should not be allowed to fly the Confederate flag. The whole history behind the flag is totally not what American stands for today. Flying the Confederate flag is a reminder of all the years African Americans were discriminated. It also is a reminder of the brutal past of slavery. For instance, Mayor Berry states how the flag, " is a celebration of an ideology that did not recognize all Men as equal". To explain, as a nation, we have to learn from our mistakes from our past and grow as a nation. in order to do this, we need to be more progressive and not dwell on ideas from the past that are not right. The Confederate doesn't symbolize America now, so therefore it should not be acceptable to fly it.
The Southern states should not be allowed to fly the Confederate flag due to the masses of upsets that arise every time the flag is mentioned. When the South seceded from the Union, they formed the Confederate States of America, and based their ideology of existence on slavery being legal to practice. Due to the racist mindset of the Confederates, most people nowadays would get offended by flying the Confederate flag in public places. The entire Civil War centered on the question of whether slavery should be outlawed or not. Eventually, the war was won by the Union, who pledged anti-slavery, and the 13th Amendment was passed and abolished the practice of slavery. African Americans and people of other nationalities take offense to the history that the infamous Confederate flag carries, and is considered a racist symbol that promotes segregation. However, because it is a part of American history, the flag should be an educative way for us to learn from our mistakes. Placing the flag in museums and other educational facilities should be allowed to inform others about how great of an impact the flag’s background had on America. However, the flag should not be placed on public property. Henceforth, the Confederate flag should not be flown by the residents of the South, nor by any other citizen who lives in America.
