The Unfinished Nation: Hard Times

Considers the devastating effects of the 1929 stock market crash on American economics, culture, and politics, beginning with the fateful events of “Black Tuesday.” Touching on early attempts at economic and agricultural reform, the program illustrates the adversities that plagued American farmers, especially in Oklahoma’s Dust Bowl. A new look at how the Depression impacted African American, Asian American, and Mexican American communities reveals the extreme discrimination and poverty faced by marginalized groups in a climate of intense hostility toward minorities. Herbert Hoover’s failed administration is profiled, as well as his crushing defeat by Franklin Roosevelt in the election of 1932. Historians and authors comment on Roosevelt’s first days in office and the aura of optimism that preceded the New Deal reforms.

The Unfinished Nation: A Chaos of Experimentation

Chronicles the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt from his first days in office until just before World War Two. This program focuses on Roosevelt’s New Deal programs and their impact on Americans. Beginning with an overview of Roosevelt’s political style, the presentation surveys his signature Fireside Chats and influential cabinet of advisors. The program discusses many of Roosevelt’s strategies to defeat the Depression in his “First Hundred Days"--agricultural programs, unemployment and public works programs, tax laws, the Social Security Act, and the National Labor Relations Act. Roosevelt’s critics, Francis Townsend, Father Charles Coughlin, Huey Long, and Alf Landon, are introduced. Also examined is the rise of labor unions and federations and the rights to collective bargaining and strikes.

FDR's New Deal Policy was instituted in order to get America out of the Great Depression. It did things such as create jobs for unemployed people. Roosevelt's personal beliefs caused him to use the full power of the government in order to save the country.

For starters the New Deal reshaped the banking system when Roosevelt asked the people to put their money in the banks and deposit more than they took out. New legislations were put into place such as an industrial recovery programme that set minimum prices and wages for farmers, farmers were told what and what not to plant, the Public Works Administation and the Federal Emergency Relief Administration were put in place. Jobs were created, money was put in the system, and social reforms, and the problems of the depression slowly got better.

When the New Deal was established, FDR was president. The New Deal was when different programs were used to help the American people. The New Deal was created to help recover from the depression. Jobs such as, building, road construction, teaching, etc. were given to the people who were unemployed. FDR shut down the banks which benifited by people depositing money in the banks instead of taking money out. Also there was a farm program which allowed farmers to grow certain plants. They enabled debt-ridden property owners to take out longer-term mortgages and paved the way for a significant expansion of homeownership in the US. In conclusion, the New Deal was blamed for prolonging the Depression by deterring private investment through excessive regulation and raising prices at the expense of jobs.

FDR was elected president during a time where the country needed many changes. While America was in the Great Depression FDR made a New Deal Policy. This policy was made to help America get out of the Great Depression. The New Deal helped reshape the banking system, more jobs were created, money was put in the systems, social reforms took place, and all these new goals put America to relief and some recovery with the great depression.

Elizabeth J. "What did the New Deal Accomplish?"
A little before his inauguration day, Roosevelt had some recovery plans that would assist in the healing of the Great Depression. There was one program in the New Deal which provided a program for farmers where they were limited to what they could and could not grow. The National Recovery Administration provided minimum wages and prices. The New Deal created the largest Public Works Administration. Roosevelt thought that the Great Depression would only heal if we all solved it with national measures. The public works programs were made to create temporary jobs. The New Deal brought welfare, job programs and social unity.

The New Deal was a series of plans in order to get the united states out of the depression. The New Deal was started by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The main plan of the New Deal was to give money to the businesses and the wealthy people so that the money would make its way down to the middle class and eventually lower class people, this would cause people to spend and cause the economy to grow. Another part of the new deal was to pay the farmers not to sell crops so the value of crops would rise causing the farmers and stores to make more money. It also gave jobs to the unemployed o that they had money to spend. The New Deal was also hated by many people. People thought it was too much of an expense to the government and that it was just to symphathetic.

The New Deal was a way for Americans to get back on track after the Great Depression. The Great Depression left at least twenty-five percent unemployed, agriculture devastated, and homeowners and farmers lost their homes and land in the thousands every month. When Roosevelt became president he created the new deal. As part of the New Deal he closed down banks. The key was not more credit, it was recapitalization. He wanted people to deposited more than they took out, which is what happened the next day when he reopened the banks. For farmers there was a program that told farmers what they could and couldn't plant. Because of the scale of the depression, FDR's Hundred Days was supported by Congressional leaders of both parties.

The New Deal was a plan that Roosevelt put together to get the United States out of the Great Depression. It was good for the U.S. in most ways, but according to some people, it was the wrong thing to do. The New Deal promised relief, recovery, and reforms. During this time, the government took control of the economy. It created jobs for the unemployed, gave people more money, and created a social reform. FDR shut down the banks in order to keep people from panicking. As soon as these actions were taken by the government and americans, the economy built up again.

President FDR created the NewDeal in reaction to the Great Depression. It was a way for the economy to begin working again. Social security, welfare, jobs, etc. were all part of his plan. Younger men were supplied jobs. Farmers were paid to not grow crops so the value of the crops would increase. All these contribution led America to a better start after the Great depression.

The new deal came out during the presidency of FDR. It attempted to stimulate the economy during the Great Depression. One way it tried to stimulate the economy was to stop the amount of crops that farmers grew so that the demand for the crops would increase they would make more money. It also created more jobs so that there wouldn't be so many poor families.
