Lincoln: hoped to reestablish the southern states, and he also created the proclamation of amnesty and reconstruction (1863). this plan meant that each of the southern states would have to rewrite their state constitutions, that would eliminate slavery.

Johnson: similar to the 10 percent plan, his plan provided for the disfranchisement os former leaders/office holders of the confedereacy, and confedereates with more than $20,000 on land that is capable of being taxed.

Radical republicans: their reconstruction included extending equal rights to ALL americans. they were also for othere causes like women's suffrage, rights for labor unions, and civil rights for blacks.

REASONS IT FAILED: johnson vetoed the civil rights bill, reconstruction resulted in the KKK killing bolacks, the court nullified the civil rights act of 1875, seperate but equal laws gave blacks the bad end of things like education, and seating. 30 years after the cilvil war and reconstruction, things went back tot the way they were.

REASONS OT SUCEEDED: johnson was impeached, hiram revels replaced jeffreson davis, and became the first black man of two, in congress. even though it was nullified, Grant passed the civil rights act if 1875 temporalily outlawed slavery.

LINCOLN: wanted to re-establish the south and wanted to do reconstruction. He wanted to rewrite their state constitution and completely get rid of slavery.

JOHNSON: his plan provided disfranchisement of former leaders or office holders and taxed more that $20,000 on land.

RADICAL REPUBLICANS: their reconstruction was more broad and was open to make everyone equal and have fair rights. This included women, blacks and slaves.

REASONS IT FAILED: Johnson tried to veto the military/ civil rights bill. The court then nullified the bill. There was a new slogan "separate but equal" and that took a lot of the blacks freedom away. The KKK also did a lot of hate crimes on new free blacks.

REASONS IT SUCCEED: Johnson was impeached, and Grant became president. Grant passed the civil rights act of 1875 which temporary outlawed and banned slavery.

ohh i agree with donna about the reasons that it failed.

Lincoln: Hoped to re-establish Southern States and unite the North and the South. Lincoln wanted the Southern states back in the Union as fast as possible with the 10% plan. He also reworked the south's laws so that it won't allow slavery anymore.

Johnson: Did not want anyone else besides white people in the Congress. He also vetoed the law that disproved the Black Codes. His actions were enigmatic in that he supposedly supported slavery and anti-slavery in a way.

Radical Republicans: They opposed what Lincoln's plans were and they came up with more than 10% plan. They were more active for civil rights and they wanted equal rights for everyone. They might have been called 'radical' but they were the ones that actually took bigger action.

Reasons It Succeeded: Many opportunities were starting to open up to Blacks and they were able to be in the Congress although they were turned back later on.

Reasons It Failed: The Impeachment of Johnson failed, Vetoing of Black Codes got "vetoed". Although their efforts of giving equal rights to everyone was really good, they didn't get much benefit out of it.

I disagree with Donna that Johnson was impeached because he didn't get impeached. He was closed to but the ratio didn't reach the required vote for him to be impeached.

OK HERE IS MY HOMEWORK!!!! ENJOY!

Lincoln's plans for reconstruction involved re-establishing the South to completely ban slavery. Lincoln worte the Proclaimation of Manesty and Reconstruction which stated that the Southern states would ahve to write themselves new constitutions and take out any parts that had to do with slavery. He wanted to unite the North and the South. YAY LINCOLN!!! ♥

Jonhson was completely the opposite of Lincoln. He only wanted whites to be in Congress. he vetoed laws that helped to ban slavery. HE WAS ALMOST IMPEACHED OH EM GEEEE! But he wasn't. PERSONALLY i find that he was a really bad president... BOOOOO!

Radical Republicans just wnated equal rights for EVERYONE! YAY RADICAL REPUBLICANS! They were radical, of course, because they took more action.

RECONSTRUCTION WAS A SUCCESS BECAUUUSSSEEE...Johnson was ALMOST impeached, Blacks became mroe politically active, The civil rights act of 1875 was passed (not for long but it WAS). It was our first step as Americans in the right direction :D

RECONSTRUCTION WAS A FAILURE BECAUUSSSEEE... The civil rights act of 1875 was nullified :(, plus there were "seperate but equal laws" which actually were not all that equal. There was a lot of effort in reconstructin, but not much good came of it in the end.

NOTE TO ROBIN AND DONNA; Johnson was NOT impeached! he almost was but the vote was like 18 to 20-something (or around there) so he stayed.

NOTE TO ROBIN; The whole seperate but equal thing was NOT a slogan, it was a series of laws/acts (ya know that kind of thing). I think.....

NOTE TO MIN; WHOA min you used the word enigmatic! HIGH FIVE! THAT WAS A VOCABULARY WORD LAST YEAR!

um...yeah! THE ENNNNNDDDD!

I agree with what Donna said on why it succeeded.

REASONS IT FAILED: i agree with robin, it failed because johnson tried to veto the civil rights act and then the court nullified it. also during this time period, there was a gang called KKK that did a lot of hate crimes to freed blacks.

REASONS IT SUCCEEDED: blacks became more politically active and gained their rights.

LINCOLN: He wanted the southern states to let the Southern States rewrite their state Constitutions, so that slavery can be abolished from their state.

JOHNSON: His plan was for only whites to be in power. He though that blacks shouldn't be given equal rights and the same liberties as the white man. He was almost impeached.

RADICAL REPUBLICANS: The radical republicans wanted to give rigts to all americans. They didn't want gender or race to be something a person can be judged on.

REASONS FOR FAILURE: Johnson vetoed the civil rights bill, but Congress passed it over the veto. Reconstruction resulted in black codes, the KKK, and separate but equal laws. Full peace wouldn't be reached until 30 years after Reconstruction.

REASONS IT SUCCEEDED: The civil rights act was passed, even though it was temporary. The fourteenth amendment was also passed giving equal rights to African Americans.

I agree with Min when he talked about Johnson, and how he only wanted whites to be in congress.

Lincoln : Had intentions on re-establishing the South to ban slavery. In addition, he created the proclamation of amnesty which stated that the Southern states must write themselves new constitutions, then take out any parts dealing with slavery.

Johnson : Believed that only whites should be in congress. As donna said, his plan involved that confedereates with more than $20,000 on land were capable of being taxed.

Radical Republicans : Wanted equal rights for all. They were also "pro" for causes involving blacks and women.

Reasons for Failure: Nullification of the civil rights act of 1875, Johnson vetoed the civil rights bill, seperate but equal laws were not fair for blacks.

Reasons for Success: The fourteenth amendment, civil rights act of 1875 passed, Hiram Revels replacing Davis.

- I agree with Gabby that Lincolns plans aimed to unite the North and the South.

lincoln: A general amnesty would be granted to all who would take an oath of loyalty. When one tenth of the number of voters who had participated in the 1860 election had taken the oath within a particular state, then that state could launch a new government and elect representatives to Congress.

Johnson: the Southern states held conventions that abolished slavery, and (except South Carolina)rejected Confederate debts.

Radical Republicans: all americans were to be equal with equal rights

Failed:the black code, kkk, veto against the president and blacks were pushed aas far back as possible

Success: freedom for blacks, education for blacks, civil rights act was passed, the 14th ammendment

>>i agree with maggie and donna on why it failed

woah, it feels weird to post something on the blog. i haven't in a LONG time. anyway, this is the homework :]

Lincoln : Lincoln wanted to rebuild the South's government by the Amnesty Act of 1863 and organized a government that abolish slavery and racism. [Which I agree with Donna, Robin, Min, Gabby, Josephine, Monica & Maggie]. Lincoln wanted to re-unite the South and North as one nation and under Lincoln's plan, the Southerns took an oath to support the Union & also the new state constitution CAN NOT allow slavery.

Johnson's : He thought of a whole new reconstruction plan. He gave pardons to all the southerns that paid an oath, and taxed many people. Johnson was sympathetic to the South & believed that the South can repair itself. For that reason, many radical Republicans felt what Johnson's doing is unjust and had several attempts to impeach him. [I aso agree with everyone.]

Radical Republicans : The Radical Repulicans wants THREE major things; revenge to punish the South, worries for freeman because it isn't easy changing slaves to freeman, and political worries that republicans will remain in both North & South. The Radical Republicans were for the Civil Rights Act, and the 14th &15th Amendment.

Reconstruction was a sucess : The 14th & 15th Amendmen was made to specify freedom, new schools were open for blacks, blacks in America is gradually been treated better, and new jobs are offered to them.

Reconstruction was a failure : Reconstruction was very chaotic. The white southerners refused to offer ANY forms of equal rights and the black southerners only wanted was equal freedom. The civil Right Act was declared as unconstitutional and the KKK was killing innocent blacks. Plessy lost in the Plessy v. Ferguson supreme court case which was unjust. Also, even when the blacks were free, they didn't have any money or land so they lived poorly & racism was still continuing in Southern America.

REASONS FOR FAILURE: Even though Johnson vetoed the civil rights bill, congress passed it. Black codes, the KKK and many other things resulted in reconstruction.

REASONS IT SUCCEEDED: The fourteenth amendment helped protect the rights of African Americans.

I agree with Donna on why reconstruction failed.

Lincoln's Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction (1863) said that a state government could be reestablished and accepted as a legitimate after 10% of the voters had took an oath to allegiance of the Union and accepted the emancipation of slaves. This meant that each southern state would be required to rewrite its state constitution to eliminate the existence of slavery.

Johnson's plan was similar to Lincoln’s 10% plan but it also caused all former leaders and office holders of the Confederacy and Confederates with over $200,000 in taxable property to loose their right to vote and hold office.

Radical Republicans wanted to extend equal rights to all Americans.

Reconstruction failed because the Black Codes restricted the rights of the newly freed African Americans in the south. Johnson vetoed two important bills- a bill increasing the service and protection of the Freedman's Bureau and the Civil Rights bill.

Reconstruction was successful because over Johnson's vetoes, Congress passed 3 Reconstruction Acts in 1867. Also, the 14th amendment declared all people born in the United States as citizens and all citizens of the United States had equal rights and protection of the law.

Just to clarify...Johnson WAS Impeached. Impeached means "to be accused of crimes" while holding public office. Johnson was accused, and tried, but was not removed from office.

This is why I get the big bucks. LOL

RADICAL REPUBLICANS: They wanted all men, including the blacks, to have equal rights.

LINCOLN: He wanted the South to rewrite their constitution so that slavery wouldn't exist.

JOHNSON: He wanted white supremacy to be in power. He thought that blacks didn't deserved equal rights as whites, He was impeached for his selfish actions.

RADICAL REPUBLICANS: They wanted to give rights to all Americans not just to African Americans but also to women and any other race. They basically persue for equality.

REASONS FOR FAILURE: When the Civil rights movement was passed the African Americans had a short period of happiness, when the supreme court disgarded the Civil Rights bill.

REASONS IT SUCCEEDED: The reconstruction help the South to get with the program. Before the Civil War the South was mainly farmland, but after the reconstruction the South became more efficient on factories like the North.

Lincoln: What Lincoln tried to do was re-establish the southerhn states. Through the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction he "forced the South to re-write laws that would end black codes.

Johnson: his plan provided former leaders or office holders to tax land more than $20,000.

Radical Republicans: Their reconstruction plan included extending equal rights to ALL americans including slaves.

The reason that the Reconstruction was a failure was because many said it did nothing at all. Most everything stayed the same.

It was a success because it gave the US some if not any stability on the issue of minoritys and laws.

LINCOLN: his plan for reconstruction was the Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction of 1863. He set up a smple process for political reconstruction for the southern states so unionists would be in charge instead of secessionists. This reconstruction plan meant that each southern state would have to rewrite its constitutions so that it wouldn't include slavery.

JOHNSON: his reconstruction plan was similar to Lincoln's 10 percent plan. The plan provided for disfranchisement of all the former leaders and officeholders of the confederacy and also the confederates with more than $20,000 in taxable property.

RADICAL REPUBLICANS: their reconstruction consisted of three acts. Ex: the fourteenth amendment and the civil rights act of 1866. Their reconstruction tried to make equal rights for all. Their reconstruction tried to bring equality in womens sufferage, civil rights for blacks, and rights for labor unions.

REASONS IT FAILED: some reasons these reconstructions failed were that they resulted in the start of groups like the KKK, greed and corruption, seperate but equal laws, black codes, and many other events.

REAONS IT SUCEEDED: some reasons that these reconstructions suceeded were property rights for women, debt relief, promoting in building of bridges, roads, internal improvements, public shool system estabished in south, extended rights o all americans, etc..
